packing the block [program]

SUBDIVISIONS AND USE. This diagram charts subdivision, composition, and distribution as a matrix. Moving from left to right, the proliferation of boundaries generated from existing street configurations subdivides the ward into three, then seven, then twenty one parts.  Moving from top to bottom, the distribution of program migrates from homogeneous/single-use zones to heterogeneous/mixed-use zones. Row two represents a combination of mixed and single use zones where some of the twenty-one subdivision zones are single use. When overlaid by the seven division zones, however, they become mixed again. Such multiple readings are the virtue of the soft border.
